Hello, Iâm Michelle Hewson â but most people call me Shelly. Iâm the heart (and hands!) behind The Positive Canine Coach here in Nottingham, where I help dogs and their humans live happier, more harmonious lives through kind, reward-based training and holistic care.
Dogs have always been my passion. While raising my children, I worked as an Ofsted-registered childminder, creating safe and happy spaces for little ones. When my own children grew up, I followed my heart, turning my lifelong love for dog training into a full-time career.
I hold multiple specialist qualifications, including:
DTC Certified Trainer (Dog Training College)
Absolute Dogs Pro Dog Trainer
Separation Anxiety Specialist
KAD (Kids Around Dogs) Professional
Children & Dogs Specialist
This combination means I can help with everything from barking, pulling on the lead, jumping up, and puppy training, to more complex issues such as fear, anxiety, and reactivity.
I work with all breeds and sizes, from giant breeds to tiny toys, and I have a soft spot for bull breeds â theyâre full of character, love, and often misunderstood.
As a children and dogs specialist, I love helping families create safe, positive bonds between kids and dogs. I also work with adoption and foster agencies to assess whether resident dogs are suitable to live with or around children.
Training is only part of the picture. I also offer holistic therapies to support your dogâs emotional and energetic wellbeing, including:
Reiki for Dogs
Canine Kinesiology
Energy Healing
I live with five French Bulldogs, each with their own personality, quirks, and charm. They inspire me every single day and have given me hands-on experience in running a calm and balanced multi-dog household. Theyâre not just my companions â they are my biggest reason for doing what I do.
My family is very much part of The Positive Canine Coach â from technical know-how to helping with training sessions, their support makes my business truly personal and heartfelt.
Whether youâre looking for puppy guidance, help with a specific behaviour, support with multi-dog living, or a gentle, holistic therapy session, you and your dog will always be welcomed with compassion, patience, and a tailored approach that celebrates your unique bond.
Letâs work together to bring out the very best in your dog â and help you both enjoy life to the fullest.
